My parents tell me I started dancing pretty much when I started to walk. I continued, took classes, was in some performances and then at 21, left London, my family, my birth country, my classes and went searching for peace and love in another country, culture, language and other past times. I had my lovely kids and a few partners along the way and tried innumerable types of dance practices.
Then at the age of 40’ish I ended up going to a 5Rhythms workshop, and that was it, it was like coming home, in me, in my dance, in the music, in the group. Since then it has been like falling in love. There were no classes at that time in Italy, only workshops in the main cities. But I found a way to organise my kids and work and leave for weekends. As all long distance love stories there were difficulties with the distance and cost of travel to be able to meet regularly, but it was worth it and this love affair is going strong still after 12 years!
Now, as a teacher, I am in (my) classes or workshops several times a week and so my beloved practice and I spend much more time together, on and off the dance floor.
We even live together, day and night a few times a year in residential workshops which deepens my love and commitment.
March is the month this year for our residential workshop, Easter Dance. There will be music, 5Rhythms dance and ritual and this year moments of Improvisational Theatre lead by Massimo Ceccovecchi. The idea is to make the most of this time of the year and celebrate Easter in a deeper way, to feel the reawakening of nature, to connect with this fertile energy and bring it’s essence into our lives. Sharing with others our re awakening and rebirth after the dark of winter in time for the arrival of Spring.
