DESCRIPTION

Awakening out of winter often demands a seasonal “shake out” - an unfurling that summons us out of hibernation and initiates new growth. Starting from the ground, we begin in our feet, dancing to reclaim an energy stream living inside us longing to be moved and expressed. Using the emergence of a flower as metaphor, we examine who we are through each of the 5Rhythms (Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness) and bring to light the stories deeply embedded in our bodies. This 5Rhythms® workshop theme is inspired by the Japanese Butoh tradition. Through the journey of our movement we practice letting go of the past to embrace impermanence, where all moments, all ideas—positive or negative—fade away. We dance with the natural cycles of life: Seed, Stalk and Flower, following the instincts that emerge out of genuine movement, free of preconceived notion. And here, embodying our own unique dance, we are able to embrace the full spectrum of our growth and opportunity with the miracle of life. No previous 5Rhythms® experience is required.
