DESCRIPTION

“Touch the cosmos, the source of our divinity, illuminating the face of the ancestors so we can see our children.” - Lemi Ponifasio

We dance at the meeting point of past and future.

We were born into a world shaped by those we call “ancestors”. Those who are born into the world that we are shaping will call us “ancestors”.

We are the living connection between the gone-before and the not-yet-born.

In this workshop we will use intuitive dance and ritual theatre to create spontaneous rituals that honour our connection to past and future generations.

We will reflect on the legacies that we have inherited: the ones that we celebrate and the ones that we struggle with.

We will consider what it is to be an intentional ancestor, to embody our wishes for those who will come after us.

Our environment, our language, our traditions and our society are all inherited. What do we want to pass on? What do we want to reshape? What are we ready to release? And what would we replace it with?

This workshop is for everyone.

No dance experience required,
all life experiences welcome.

NOTES

5Rhythms is a movement practice originated by Gabrielle Roth, which unites the physical, the emotional, the intuitive, the creative and the spiritual. Ben has studied 5Rhythms since 2005 with teachers who were trained by Gabrielle. He trained to teach with Jonathan Horan, Gabrielle’s son, and started teaching in 2016. Ben aims to always honour the tradition of the 5Rhythms, while allowing the dance to grow and change with each new dancer who steps onto the floor.

This two day workshop costs £70
(£63 if booked with deposit before 25th October)
£30 non-refundable deposit confirms your booking.

Refund Policy

Deposits are non-refundable.

If a student cancels their booking, any payment above the deposit amount will be refunded.

If workshop is cancelled by the organiser, all payments will be refunded.

A Gabrielle Roth 5Rhythms Waves workshop is the foundation of the entire body of 5Rhythms work in which we expand our class work with a deepened physical expression and knowledge of the essential 5Rhythms and their polarities.
PREREQUISITES: No prerequisites required.
