It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.
– ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPERY
Ask yourself, what is essential in life? Often the answers come from our heart. What makes us feel most alive? Moving fluidly through the 5Rhythms Heartbeat® map is to claim the deep emotional intelligence within us.
When growing up, were you taught to suppress and deny emotions? You would not be alone – it’s a common experience. Often we come to believe that strong feelings are inappropriate, overwhelming, scary and wrong. Living like this, we are blocking our life force, creating a sense of things never being quite right, tainted with quiet desperation, falsity, ambivalence and even despair.
This workshop uses the 5Rhythms map to anchor our bigger intense feelings and to catalyse some of our dormant, unacknowledged emotions. We will learn to lean into and move with our fear, experience the clarity and vitality of unattached anger, the natural release of our sadness, the uplift of our joy and the connectedness of our compassion.
Because of our history, moving with emotion can feel like a big thing. So we practice the art of allowing, not pushing, not resisting and certainly not getting stuck in the head with what all these feelings mean. In a safe, supported container, we dance the Heartbeat map, learning healthy ways to reclaim our essential heart and reinvigorate ourselves using the vital life force of our emotional world.
My first Heartbeat in 1997 was a profound experience. The vitality of dancing pure emotion quickly catalyzed what I needed to address, affirmed what was true and quieted my drama. I have danced Heartbeat again and again and I am grateful to many teachers for deepening my relationship with this amazing map. 18 years later, having completed my 5Rhythms Heartbeat Teacher Training with Jonathon Horan, I am delighted to be able to share this deep teaching with you.” Meredith
