I fell in love with the 5Rhythms 25 years ago while living in London. I stepped onto the dance floor and things were never the same.
I was almost 10 years into my career as a Social Worker at this time working with homelessness, mental illness and addiction. I had no idea what a toll this work had on me, I thought I was taking care of myself but through the dance I learned that there was so much of my sensual experience that was being denied and avoided.
Through the dance I found myself and learnt to listen deeply to my needs and find new creative and sustainable ways to take care of myself.
This transformed my perspective on healing and health, and after many years of dancing the 5Rhythms, In 2013 I moved to New York city to undertake a Masters of Dance and Somatic Movement Therapy and complete the 5Rhythms Teacher Training.
During this time I also immersed myself in a number of different somatic modalities including Continuum, Authentic Movement, Body Mind Centering. TOFF technique and many more.
During my training I ran 5Rhythm classes in a Mental Health facility in the Bronx and saw important powerful shifts.
The 5Rhythms support individuals to shift their attention to the internal landscape of experience - in doing so we become aware of how we are really feeling. By being connected to our body-self we can then being to explore what support our well-being.
