What happens in a class:
Focus on free movement: There are no choreographed steps to learn. Participants are free to move however they feel, following the music and their own body's impulses.
Guided by the rhythms: The class explores the five rhythms—flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical, and stillness—which are presented in a sequence known as a "Wave".
Flowing: A soft, receptive, and grounded movement.
Staccato: Energetic, sharp, and angular.
Chaos: A release of control, embracing wildness and freedom.
Lyrical: A sense of joy and celebration, finding the dance's poetry.
Stillness: A deep, slow, and meditative movement that connects to inner wisdom.
Guidance and music: Instructors play music to inspire and guide movement, but the emphasis is on self-expression and what the individual feels in their body at that moment.
Group dynamic: Dancers can move individually, with a partner, or with the whole group, exploring connection and unity while remaining grounded in their own practice.
What to expect:
Accessibility: The practice is designed for all ages, body types, and fitness levels, with the only requirement being a willingness to move.
Mind-body connection: The practice aims to connect the mind and body, allowing for a release of emotional tension through movement.
Spiritual and healing aspects: Beyond a physical workout, 5Rhythms is considered a spiritual path and a form of healing, promoting self-discovery and well-being.
The movement LAB offers a 20min. warm up followed by a short introduction, and the rest of the class we dance a wave.
