DESCRIPTION

Donna is the creator and co-founder of Ecstatic Dance Oakland, the largest weekly conscious dance on the planet, which brings over 300 people together every Sunday morning and Wednesday evening in Oakland, California. Ecstatic Dance Oakland has been called, “a cross between a yoga class, a rave and a church service,” has been featured on NPR, in the Huffington Post, the SF Chronicle, The NY Times, Common Ground Magazine, and in a blockbuster movie starring the singer Pink.T here is no leader or set choreography; dancers move their bodies as the music and their inner feelings guide them.

ABOUT DONNA'S CLASS

• Musical journey: A DJ curates a musical experience, selecting a wide range of genres to guide dancers through various emotional and energetic arcs.

• Safe space: Events are designed to be non-judgmental, allowing participants to feel secure and expressive in their movements.

• No talking: A common guideline is to avoid conversation during the dance to help maintain the immersive, meditative atmosphere.

• Inner and outer exploration: The practice involves an inner journey of self-discovery and an outer journey of connection with the music and other dancers.

• Therapeutic benefits: Participants often experience emotional release, stress reduction, and a sense of catharsis and healing.

Donna Carroll is substitute teaching for Sylvie Minot while she travels and teaches workshops in New York and Europe.

To make the dance financially accessible, free entry is offered to volunteers. We also offer sliding scale fees:

$20 - discounted for those in need of financial support
$25 - covers the cost of the class
$30 - helps sustain the class

Online registration: credit only, includes a 4.5% transaction fee.

A Gabrielle Roth 5Rhythms Waves workshop is the foundation of the entire body of 5Rhythms work in which we expand our class work with a deepened physical expression and knowledge of the essential 5Rhythms and their polarities.
